Year2024
Duration: 2 months
Project Type: Virtual Production, Film Making, Unreal Engine | Graduate Student Project
Project overview
“Virtual Production and XR stages” serves as an engaging primer into the realm of virtual production, an emerging field that is transforming the landscape of film, VFX and the entertainment industry.
I explored how to utilize powerful tools such as real time rendering engines, and other
or appropriate software packages, to create immersive, cinematic, virtual environments and experiences.
A comprehensive learning of how virtual production integrates with traditional filmmaking, motion image, broadcasting, live performances, augmented reality visual effects and other emerging cinematic production processes.

Scope
Initially we had to create a concept and pitch it to the class. Out of 28 students, only 3 will be selected by conducting votes democratically. My concept received one of the highest votes, and got selected one among the three.
Teams were formed based on the concepts the students liked to work with and were divided in equals. To note that these are non-film students.
The aim goal is to learn this emerging technology - "Virtual Production" or the LED Volume.

Learning Outcome
With this project I learned a lot about Virtual Production and film making. I understand that the tradition film making is so different from that of film making in virtual production.
Now with all these expertise I have acquired from this project,
 - I am able to recall and describe the foundational principles and workflow of virtual
production, as well as the functionalities of real-time engines, or other ICVFX pipelines.
 - I understand of how to interpret the effects of various virtual production techniques on the final output of a film or moving image project.
 - I earned the knowledge of real-time engines, or other ICVFX pipelines to create
simple virtual environments and real-time visuals.
 - Analyse the suitability and effectiveness of different virtual production techniques for
various filmmaking scenarios, leveraging ICVFX, post-processing, asset creation, and real time image generation.
 - I can develop a hands-on project with my understanding of virtual production, real-time engines, and other ICVFX pipelines, showcasing an integrated and innovative approach to
creating a short film and/or interactive performance.
